Which Belter size is right for my child?
Choose a Belter by inside leg, not by age. The Belter 14 fits from a 37cm inside leg, the Belter 16 from 41cm, the Belter 20 Auto from 50cm and the Belter 24 from 58.5cm. Age ranges are a guide only: 3 to 5, 4 to 6, 6 to 8 and 8 to 11 respectively. Measure barefoot, from floor to crotch.
How do I measure my child's inside leg for a Belter?
Stand your child barefoot against a wall with their feet slightly apart. Place a book between their legs, spine up, and slide it firmly to the crotch. Measure from the top edge of the book to the floor. That figure is the inside leg and it decides which Belter fits today, not which one they will grow into.
Why does the Belter use a belt drive instead of a chain?
The Belter runs a carbon reinforced belt drive rather than a chain. The belt is 71% lighter than a standard single speed chain and 36% quieter, and it stays clean because there is nothing to oil. No grease on hands, no chain drops, no rust. On the Belter 16 the belt is 830mm long, 8mm wide, with a 10.0mm tooth pitch.
How much maintenance does a Belter belt drive need?
Very little. The belt needs no oiling and cannot rust, and a belt typically runs for 20,000 to 30,000km. The one job worth doing is checking belt alignment and tension after the first few rides, since transport and early use can shift it. How much assembly does a Belter need when it arrives?
A Belter arrives pretty much assembled. Every bike goes through a Pre Delivery Inspection before it ships, so the build is checked by hand first. At home you fit the pedals, watching the L and R markings, set the saddle height and check the brakes, which can shift slightly in transit. Tools and instructions are in the box.
What is the difference between a Belter and a Belter Auto?
A standard Belter is single speed, so there is nothing to shift and nothing to think about. A Belter Auto adds a two speed automatic hub that changes gear by itself as speed builds, with no shifter and no cables for your child to manage. The Belter 24 steps up again to an 8 speed Shimano Nexus hub.
What are the delivery, returns and warranty terms for a Belter?
Early Rider offers 30 day returns on every Belter. In stock bikes are dispatched the next working day via our carrier and in most cases arrive within 2-4 working days. Every Belter carries a two year warranty including the frame, drivechain, etc. Wear components are excluded but always investigated.
